Sometimes I can't decide if getting to photograph families when they welcome a new human fills my soul or leaves me wanting to do it one more time. This family somehow did both. The love they share as a family of four left me feeling a little lighter and whole lot happier. This session was so much fun as they were so easy going and fun to be around but also their home was filled with light and rainbows! I most certainly left this session wanting another baby... as well as a beveled antique window.
So this is love, mmm
So this is love
So this is what makes life divine
I'm all aglow, mmm
And now I know (and now I know)
The key to all heaven is mine
My heart has wings, mmm
And I can fly
I'll touch every star in the sky
So this is the miracle
That I've been dreaming of
So this is love

I was singing this to myself as I looked at their pictures today.
Just over eight pounds, soft fluffy dark hair, that sweet baby smell. That baby fresh, maybe some spit up but I don't care smell. The weight of an entire life just wrapped up so tiny in your arms. This love took me back to my first as he felt, smelled, and even looked similar to her. He's just perfect and it was a privilege to get to share a Saturday morning with his proud and loving family.
Here's a quick link to this family's maternity session.
When I walked into this beautiful family's home, I instantly felt the warmth and love. The two big sisters were so proud and kind. Mom was patient and gentle. Dad was calm and playful. I left thinking that maybe we all should have three kids of our own because this family was so joyful about their newest addition. Then I came home to my two littles who were hanging on me and remembered that one leg per child was a good ratio for me.
This family welcomed their second baby this spring and I was honored to photograph their now family of four. Sweet baby brother was calm and relaxed just like his parents. Big sister was kind to her brother but also playful and silly with her parents while she bounced high on the ball and read books. She loved to help me and took the last photo of the session which I happened to love (and included below). This family is filled with love and I hope you see that in the images!
Before this newborn session, the expecting mother told me she knew that her baby would be a Daddy's Girl. When I walked up to their home, the proud new father was sitting on the front deck, with a little bundle in arms. He appeared to have every bit of confidence while he held his new wonder while sipping coffee in the sun. I've never seen a brand new baby so entranced with her daddy.
Photographing babies when they are sleeping and content makes for amazing images of their tender moments, but this baby did not sleep and was having a rough morning. Being 10 days old can be tough. Although I know it was hard for this family, I just love that every single image shows the deep love this baby's parents have for her as they soothed and protected.
When I left this session, I turned off the news, rolled down the windows and held on tight to the fact that all around us are parent who love hard. The sun felt a little brighter that Wednesday.
I was welcomed to this family's home with dad casually holding his swaddled ten day old at the door and the two year old big sister eyeing me in the corner. She warmed up quickly when I let her take the first photo of our session, her pony of course.
I was inspired and honored to get to spend the morning with this growing family. When big sister held the new babe, her mom and dad proudly wrapped their arms around their girls as she said over and over, "This is a family! A family! A family!". It was such a beautiful moment I had to remind myself to keep taking pictures.
I knew right then and there that I am blessed to get to do this. These pictures just warm my soul and I hope they do the same for you.
